# Are Peptides Legal? > Are peptides legal in Australia? Most are Schedule 4 prescription-only medicines. Our register shows each peptide’s schedule, ARTG and WADA status, sourced. Whether a peptide is legal in Australia depends on which peptide it is and what you are doing with it: possessing it, importing it or supplying it. A peptide medicine that is on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), such as semaglutide, is lawful to use when it is prescribed and dispensed; most of the injectable peptides marketed online are unapproved goods that cannot lawfully be supplied here, and many are named in the Poisons Standard as substances nobody may hold without authority. Three bodies of rules do most of the work. The Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 requires peptide products used for a therapeutic purpose to be on the ARTG before they are imported, manufactured, supplied or advertised, unless an exemption applies ( TGA ). The Poisons Standard sorts substances into schedules, and the states and territories give those schedules force through their own laws. The WADA Prohibited List decides what an athlete can be sanctioned for, which is a separate question from what is lawful. The register below sets out, for each peptide Australians search for, its Poisons Standard entry, whether any product is on the ARTG and its 2026 anti-doping status, with a link to the source for every cell. It was checked against the October 2026 edition of the Poisons Standard on 5 November 2026. Last updated: 2026-11-05 ## Main pages - [Are peptides legal in Australia?
